Has anyone out there gotten Transcript 2 (from Adobe) working with lpr and an Apple Laserwriter (sio 9600 baud) under SR9.5.1? Although things compiled properly, the new version of transcript communicates primarily through signals and PSCOMM in particular (the replacement for psif) is behaving quite strangely. Specifically: If the file to be printed is more than one page then pscomm (the writer or parent end) dies with an I/O error. The reader (child) sticks around (stupid kid) and holds the serial line open while LPD, clever fellow that he is, restarts itself and spawns another pscomm. This hangs since the old reader has the port. In another, and as yet not very well explored situation, the reader (child) dies for an unknown reason (or else it was done) but the writer (parent) fails to take notice. In this situation everything hangs until the writer is killed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'm back to transcript level 1 (if that still works!).
