[comp.sys.apollo] Edfont, again

richard@gryphon.CTS.COM (Richard Sexton) (08/20/87)

First the gripe: If I edit a font with the 9.6 enfont, although I can
USE the font (seemingly) on any release, the old (9.2.x) edfont doesnt
seem to be able to edit it any more. I read the docs on edfont, perhaps
I missed something about this in some other manual ?

Some suggestions:
(Note that I normally use 9.2.3 edfont on a DN300, and only today
tried 9.6 enfont on a 1280 x 1024 DN3000)

	1) I'm glad to see the requestors [*] dont go away when you
move the cursor away from them, they have a "doit/cancel"
icon instead. Nice touch. But: there are some things I find
myself doing, where it would be nice if it did it the 'old'
way. A command line switch perhaps.

	2) These two points concern themselves with the size of
individual pixels relative to the 1280 x 1024 display.

		a) The 'Grid' (no pun intended :-) dots are
only a single pixel, and are teeny-tiny and
real tough to see from more than 12" back.

		b) The 'preview box' where one sees the character
in its REAL size, is also very tiny. No, granted
if you are editing a 7 point character, you wanted
to see it as a real 7 point character, BUT, it
would be nice to see it 2X or 3X, when there is room,
ie. when edfont is given the whole screen.

	3) I dont understand why, if you have selected 'set origin'
and you move the pointer outside the window, it 'deselects'
	the set origin function.

[*] requester: The little box you get when you click on an icon
such as 'select filename' This probably isn't the right Apollo name for
it, but thats what came to mind. Shows my Amiga upbringing I guess.

These probably sound like whining little complaints, but I've been
using it all day, and my eyes hurt from having to get so close to
the screen. I know, serves me right for editing a 7 point font
in the first place. :-)

But again, how much do I like the new edfont ? Lots. Can't believe
they pay me to do this. 1/4 :-)

Disclaimer: The muzzle fell off. My opinions. Hear me ? MINE!
