ADUS is still taking papers. It seems that there is not much activity for the UNIX sig. I suppose I should get off my duff and put out a letter like the sys_admin sig. Talking to Andrea (our ADUS coordinator), it seems that unix is not a seperate issue anymore, but an interal part of the Apollo. I am looking at some of these things for discussion at the unix sig: 1) What do we want from Apollo in the way of UNIX? This would be an open discussion with some of the people who help determine the direction of unix. Some of the issues which may be disscussed are which standards to follow (POSNIX, AT&T, bsd, all of the above, etc.), what do you need from the current implementations which you do not now have, etc. If people send me issues they would like to talk about, I will publish them before the conference so that we will have time to think about them. I don't think we need to bound to the published issues unless we have a problem with time, though. 2) Configuration of your unix system. I am trying to get someone to talk on news and mail. If you have tried to edit a sendmail.cf file yet, you know this is quite a chore. News is also much more work than most things which are "part of Aegis". 3) Other papers ADUS receives for the unix sig. (KEEP THOSE PAPERS COMING). 4) The function of the UNIX sig. As unix and apollo become one, the function of unix sig starts to encompass the entire operating system. Thus, what becomes the function of the unix sig? For example: should we change to the unix tools sig covering such things as news, porting, X windows, etc.? If we want to talk of other issues and/or if you feel these issues are not appropriate let me know. "This is your sig." I'm just here to attempt to get what you want to see for the unix sig. uucp: {uunet, ihnp4!umn-cs}!giebelhaus arpa: Giebelhaus@hi-multics.arpa phone: (612) 541-6852 address: Tim Giebelhaus Honeywell CSDD (MN63-B115) 1000 Boone Av.
