Here an interesting bit of info which other users may find helpful ... The standard Apollo print server (/com/prsvr) can handle the Apple Laserwriter. All you have to do is to specify DEVICE APPLE in the configuration file. If you have a relatively new Laserwriter (or a Laserwriter Plus) everything works just fine, text and bitmaps come our nice and crisp. However, if you have an older Laserwriter you may find that there are white streaks in the bitmaps that you print, especially if you are printing large areas of black or grey. It turns out that the older Laserwriters have a (naturally) older version of the Postscript interpreter in them, and the older interpreter does not get the bitmap printed correctly. This can be fixed by upgrading the printer to a Laserwriter Plus -- for about $800. But ... if you don't have that kind of cash there turns out to be another solution. The SR9.2.3 print server seems to print bitmaps just fine on the older Laserwriters. I have no idea how it works with the newer models, as I only have one of the older printers to work with. If you've been having problems with printing bitmaps on your Laserwriter, just try a different version of /com/prsvr. -- David Krowitz mit-erl!mit-kermit!krowitz@eddie.mit.edu mit-erl!mit-kermit!krowitz@mit-eddie.arpa krowitz@mit-mc.arpa (in order of decreasing preference) P.S. don't use the SR9.0 version of /com/prsvr. It will print text on the Laserwriter, but bitmaps seem to go directly into the bit bucket (ie. you get no output at all).
