Hello everyone!
I have a couple of questions dealing with Ethernet LAN software.
We (the Math/Stats Dept. at the University of Guelph) have an
Ethernet network consisting of IBM PC's (XT's, AT's, clones) with
3 Com cards installed. We have a DN3000 running Domain IX with
the COM-ETH product acting as a gateway. Currently we are able
to log in from the PC's to the Apollo via telnet and transfer
files via ftp.
We would like to have the Apollos act as a file server for the PC's.
Two approaches that could be taken are:
1) Install Apollo's version of NFS on the Apollo and attempt
to find a version of NFS for the PC (SUN has PC-NFS, are
there others?), or
2) Wait for a version of Apollo's PCI product which works with Ethernet
hardware.
I would appreciate comments from anyone who has tried approach 1) and
comments as to when (or if) approach 2) will be available. If anyone
has a totally different approach, please enlighten me.
Thanks,
John.
