CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts, December 8, 1987 -- Apollo Computer Inc. today announced the immediate availability of MAP 2.x (Manufacturing Automation Protocol), allowing Apollo workstation users to communicate with factory floor devices. The products include a PC/AT-compatible MAP 2.1 controller card that allow Series 3000 and Series 4000 personal workstations to connect to MAP LANs. The controller card is available through Concord Communications, Inc. of Marlborough, Mass. Also available, from SISCO of Warren, Michigan, is the Manufacturing Message Service - Embedded Application Service Element (MMS-EASE), the application layer protocol which allows users to communicate with machine tools, programmable logic controllers, and robots.
