Anyone know if the Apollo BSD 4.2 and Ultrix 2.0-1 are or are not compatible? The Apollo talk successfully awakens the Ultrix talk facility, but the response from Ultrix goes unrecognized. Anyone else have this problem, and, perhaps, a fix? . -- ___________________ Darryl C. Conliffe conliffe@caen.engin.umich.edu (313) 721-6069 -------------------

I've heard that there is a byte-order problem with BSD4.2's
talk, but I haven't examined the code to find this. Unfortunately,
we are running Ultrix2.0 and have the same problem. If Ultrix2.0
uses the 4.2 version of talk, that would explain it, but I would
think that they would use the 4.3 version (which I believe has the
error fixed).

The 4.2 talk used a machine dependent protocol, and in general you
can't make it interoperate between different flavors of unix on
different machines. I think this is fixed in bsd4.3 but haven't
actually tried it.
