Peter Tanner of National Research Council of Canada
will speak on ``Adagio, A Robotics Multitasking Mul-
tiprocessor Workstation.''
TIME: 3:30 PM
ROOM: MC 5158
ABSTRACT
Adagio is a robotics simulation workstation currently
under development at the National Research Council of
Canada. The workstation, when completed, will give the
user the capability of manipulating 3D objects in a
robot environment, of programming the robot interac-
tively, and of viewing the results of a robot simula-
tion. It is based on the Harmony O/S, a multitasking,
multiprocessor message-passing system. Adagio's user
interface management system, taking advantage of
Harmony's multitasking capabilities, is based on a
switchboard model of input. It encourages the applica-
tion programmer to make extensive use of parallel
input, that is, having several input devices simultane-
ously ready to accept user control. Also designed to
take advantage of multitasking is the menu system that
controls which tasks are executing, and to which tasks
input is sent.
Refreshments will be served at 3:00 pm.
