[comp.sys.apollo] AUTOCAD

antunes@imag.UUCP (antunes) (02/27/88)

AUTOCAD is a Computer Aided Design software produced by AUTODESK.
I heard that the version 2.6 of AUTOCAD has been installed on APOLLO.
If you use this version on APOLLO and you have had problems with it,
could you please send me a mail or post a news?

					Thank you in advance,

					Francisca Antunes

We have Autocad on our Apollos (DN3000 monocrome) and have had great problems
with it. Sorry, I don't have the version number to hand.

1) The idiot who came down to install it had never seen an Apollo before,
and only had some vague ideas about how a Sun worked.
2) I refused to allow him to install it in /usr/acad. His instalation
instructions would have tied down /usr, so Domain/IX (unix) could never
work on the nodes.
3) I read the manual and found that Autocad could be installed elsewhere,
if one set some environment variables. I did this and it mostly seemed
to work.
4) However, the LISP system refuses to work. It first fails to find
the needed file, and prompts you for the name of it. When you give
it the name it then reports something like "wrong verson of lisp for
this machine". After about a dozen phone calls, we were told that
	a) Autocad can't follow symbolic links
This was not our problem, but it is interesting to know
anyhow. It appears that the routine which loads the
LISP does not look at the specified variables.
	b) We had the wrong version of LISP!

All this was back in December, and we still don't have the correct version.
Without the LISP, we are unable to use the system for anything other than
very trivial work.
