[comp.sys.apollo] Broken Pipe

     Has anyone seen this before:

	% uncompress <stuff.tar.z | tar tf -
	<- contents of archive generated properly ->
	Broken pipe

	#----------

     I'm not sure if its compress or tar that's not terminating
properly, but I believe it to be tar.  If I do "compress
<uncompressed_stuff | uncompress >uncompressed_stuff.1", and also
"uncompress <compressed_stuff | compress >compressed_stuff.1",
everything happens correctly.  Any ideas ...
