Does anyone out there know of a machine called the DSP5000? Better still, is APOLLO ever going to put out a higher end machine with more memory capacity that has a MULTIBUS? Our DSP90's are only fitted with 3MB, and SR10 is sure going to make those guys slow! Each DSP90 has at least 500MB of heavily used disk space, and the pain of waiting for disk-bound simulations to finish is taking its toll on my users! Any comments are appreciated. Actually, if you just use the DSP90's for disk servers then 3MB should be enough memory. We have an old DSP80 which is still chugging along with 1.5 MB (the max!), and as long as we are CRP'ed onto it trying to run the tape drive it runs just fine. If you want a multibus, you can get a DN570/580/590 or a DN10000 - both of which are expensive. It's cheaper to buy a DN3000 and a couple of 350 MB disks than it is to buy a DN5xx just to plug the old MSD500 drives into. -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter@athena.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)

I stand corrected! I remembered that it came with two bus options and that VME was one of them. I assumed the other was Multibus. Digging through my product literature I see that the other bus is actually the PC-AT bus. -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter@athena.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)
