[comp.sys.apollo] GMR, FORTRAN, Postscript, and general nuisances

FERGUSON@BKNLVMS.BITNET (09/28/88)

A couple of things:

1) GMR Rev 2.0 is not fully compatible with the original revision
which was free with the OS. (I don't like this 'optional' stuff)

2) The changes that make GMR rev 2.0 incompatible aren't very well
documented. For example, the fact that you must associate an
    environment file to the GM_$PRINT_VIRTUAL_VIEWPORT.

If you're gonna make these kind of changes, then PLEASE
          document them!

3) FORTRAN version 9.95 (the update that just shipped) doesn't
recognize many constants in the /sys/ins/gmr.ins.ftn file,
    for instance GM_$POSTSCRIPT, and GM_$ENVFILE_INDEX_ADD.
This means I have to look up the values in the insert file,
and type the value in. How upward-compatible is that?

If you're gonna make these changes, make them WORK!!!!

(This is intented for both the FORTRAN people as well
as the GMR people)

Now back to my problem. Now that I've got a Postscript output
file with text routines included, they don't print on my
new Apollo (TI) LaserPrint 8. The macros for Anchor text are
in the file, and no error messages are printed, but there's
still no text.

Dear Apollo research people, and quality control people:
let's either make it work, or doument the problems.

ESPECIALLY if you plan on chargin extra for it!!!!!!
I personally don't enjoy paying for this aggravation.
