One of our users had what sounds like an identical problem. He wanted to manipulate a GPR bitmap file from a program, release the file for other uses without terminating the manipulating program, then reopen the same file again later. He called Apollo and was told to call "gpr_$deallocate_bitmap. However, even though "gpr_$deallocate_bitmap" closes the GPR bitmap file opened with "gpr_$open_bitmap_file", the file remains locked by the system until the program which opened the file terminates. Thus, the executing program cannot reopen the same GPR bitmap file more than once in the same execution. Under some strange and intermittent circumstances, he says the file remains locked even after the calling program terminates. He still has no solution.
