Here's an interesting siuation: mounting NFS volumes at the root (//) level works fine, but strange things occur when trying to do anything other than that. Suppose i have two apollos, one a gateway, the other is inside the ring. An NFS volume is exported to the gateway (/usr/local/src for example). the gateway node mounts it at root (//) level and the inside node can see it fine. Now, if the gateway node decides to mount a directory of the partition elsewhere (/usr/local/src/X as /u/wicinski/X for example). It mounts fine, and on the gateway node it works fine. HOWever, on the node inside the ring, it appears as a plain file, and not as a directory. any ideas? If i rcp files over from another machine to my apollo, the files will have myself as owner, and have me in the proper group, but i will not be allowed to change the file, usually giving me 'read only' msgs (vi), or 'not owner' messages (chmod, chown, stuff like that). now this is wierd... tim (ps - rob stanzel at apollo - my messages where getting barfed all over the place. let me know if it made it...a burning rag is in order....)
