[comp.sys.apollo] A number of questions

K4TDS@SCFVM.GSFC.NASA.GOV ("Thomas D. Schardt") (12/15/88)

I am getting a currently little used Apollo DN3000 upgraded to a
DN3500 with 350 odd megabytes of disk space. I have a few questions
for folks on the list:

1) With SR10, AEGIS is no longer required to run SYS V or BSD 4.3 (yeah!).
I am considering just putting on the BSD implementation (so I can
install BSD based programs - TN3270 for example). Is anyone doing
this now? How is it? Why didn't Apollo provide the user the option
load BSD and SYS V together?

2) I am also considering putting the MIT X Windows generic software on
the 3500 (who knows when Apollo will come out with there souped up
version and how much it would cost?). I remember people talking about
the changes required to make X run under SR10. Where can I get the
    cookbook list?

3) Is there an Apollo archive of FTPable programs? Where is it?

To address the general question, " What do you think of sr10?": Wait for
sr10.1. sr10 is a vast improvement over sr9, but sr10.0 is too buggy to
be used by a general user. Note that my node runs sr10.0 ... :-)
