[comp.sys.apollo] Mathematica on Apollos

ianh@merlin.bhpmrl.oz (Ian Hoyle) (01/12/89)

We have a network of Apollo 3500 and 4500 workstations with a 4 cpu DN10000
server. Does anyone know if there is a version of Mathematica yet for
Apollo machines (running SR10), and if there is, does it use NCS (network
computer system).

It would seem to me to be crazy not to be able to utilize the cpu power of
the 10000 with this brand new box sitting on our token ring :-)

 i spoke with the people at wolfram and asked them about
Mathematica on apollos and it seems that at this point0
in time the answer is no. i might add that they are considering
a port to apollo. note the word CONSIDERING. hope this is of
some help.

Vince, did you notice the Jan 89 p.101 announcement in
Computer Graphics World that Sun Microsystems
has released (not Wolfram?) SunMathematica?

Why can Sun do this and Apollo can not? Or
is it? Seems Sun did its own conversion.

(I know you're not the person to ask;
 I'm only agitat'in a bit :=)

Hiya,

     We talked to our local Apollo reps who told us that Mathematica
is available for the Apollos. Check with your local dealer.
