How about a newsgroup to discuss problems and solutions for homeowners or prospective homeowners. With the crazy real estate market and energy costs soaring through the stratosphere, I would expect this group to be a real winner.

I'm all for this one. Let's see now - net.real-estate (too long), net.re (too short), net.home or net.homes (hmm), net.housing (hmm). One thing to bear in mind is that we should expect traffic of the form "House for sale" or "I'm looking for a house near x" - there is a lot of this kind of traffic at UCB on msgs right now. We should define a policy right away - I'm not averse to this kind of traffic at all, but we might want to make a subgroup for it or something. We also need a policy on what categories of housing to include. Do we want apartments? Condos? Duplexes? If so, should there be subgroups? What about geographical subgroups - I bet a lot of you are tired of hearing about a car for sale clear across the country, and houses are even worse because you can't even drive out there, pick it up, and take it back with you. Also, should the newsgroup center of topics of interest to prospective home-buyers (prices, interest rates, etc) or to current homeowners (taxes, insurance, maintenence, etc) or both? People with further comments should probably indicate which segment(s) they are interested in, perhaps we can get a feel for who the interested parties are and conform accordingly. Me, I'm interested in single family houses (having just bought one) and related issues. I'd like to get and maintain some idea of what the real estate market in California is like (someday I hope to own a home there) and generally keep abreast of such issues. I'd like to avoid having to look at messages from people looking for apartments in Berkeley. Comments? Mark

*** YOUR MESSAGE *** I've noticed that there is yet another rather large niche that seems to be missing. Is there anyone out there in USENETland who is interested in theater, either as a spectator or a participant? You East Coast folks: what reviews can you give us of Broadway's latest? Anybody written any scripts that they'd like to share with others? What about community and semi-professional theater around the country? Any amusing anecdotes from the local stage? Any pointers for making the most of that audition? Surely, you techies have interesting tips that can be shared with other techie types or problems that other techies could help you with. I propose that a good place for it would be net.rec.theater (or net.rec.theatre) if there is sufficient interest. As for me, I'm a theater buff who has recently designed lights, completed a script and is preparing for an audition. I'll also be seeing a show in NY during Christmas. Any takers? -- Mark A. ...uw-beaver!ssc-vax!adolph "Computers are like preppies: they just boil around in their own way and you have to do things their way or they blow you off." I like the idea of a newsgroup for theatre buffs and would-be playwrights and actors. But I don't think that such a group should be a subdivision of net.rec, any more than net.movies should be. I propose net.theater; any takers?

If you really need the group (I vote NO!), how about naming it "net.rec.theater". -len tower UUCP: {ihnp4,harpo}!inmet!tower Intermetrics, Inc. INTERNET: ima!inmet!tower@CCA-UNIX.ARPA 733 Concord Ave. Cambridge, MA 02138 (617) 661-1840 U.S.A.
