Discussions of "gay rights" will naturally envolve comparison with
other rights, and I doubt there will be much interest (or usefulness)
in a newsgroup devoted entirely to "Who has the right to do what,
and why?" because the many divergent, incompatable views on the
subject.

If net.origins, net.abortion, ad nausem, have taught people little
on those issues, can we expect any erudition from net.rights? How about
net.reality, for people who don't see things *my* way?

I think net.rights will just be used for the usual emotionalized
political drivel that is so popular on the net. Why bother learning
about philosophies of individual rights when you can flame about
them? This is just another "write only" newsgroup.

The description of this newsgroup is so broad and so unlikely to
serve anyone's needs I don't think we should have it.
If it does come to exist I'm sure it will end up on my "expire early" list,
along with net.origins, net.flame, net.abortion ....

I think net.legal will cover most of what you want, namely:

> laws & legislation
> what is a right? how many rights are there? when if ever
> can they be denied, & to whom? is there a right
> to a job, a right to discriminate, etc.?
> applications of any of the above issues to any groups,
> nations, historical periods, belief systems, etc.

I vote, so to speak, no. I think those things are adequately covered
by other groups. You'd get traffice here -- but only because everyone
postintg to net.news, net.abortion, net.legal, etc would post the
same articles to net.rights.
