I recently received a summary of the topics to be presented, many by Apollo, at the ADUS meeting this year in New Orleans. Many of the topics sounded extremely interesting. So much so that they could help sell Apollo equipment. Apollo must realize that many people, including those who might become customers in the next year, will not be able to make it to this meeting. They should therefore videotape the key sessions and then send copies out to all of their field sales offices. The offices could then lend the tapes to customers. This would help educate customers to Apollo's directions and also serve as a marketing tool by wowing people with all of the great technology plans. The tapes could replace one week of the typical 'why Apollo is so great' tapes that they continually send to their sales offices. Love your customers and they may not love you back, but they will keep buying. Replacing the pitiful 'Edge' magazine with something similar to SUNTechnology would also help ensure a more loyal and better educated customer base. Now let's bet what the odds are that neither of these tasks as I have described them will be pursued. -- Bob Weiner, Motorola, Inc., USENET: ...!gatech!uflorida!novavax!weiner (407) 738-2087

I'll bet that the odd are pretty good that your ideas will not be pursued (and I think that they are *extremely* good ones) ... unless the new management team that HP has brought in has made some fundamental changes in Apollo's attitude towards end-user oriented marketing. (Walt Weber, are you listening? Can you pass Bob's ideas along on Chelmsford's internal mailing lists to the appropiate people. Thanks). -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter@athena.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)

The only way to get a good video tape would be to go into a studio and retape the presentations in a studio. I have seen the results when attempting to do video taping at a conference. It is not good enough to justify the time or expense. Audio taping and copies of the handouts turn out to be equal. The video tape would probably be no better than a talking head. * *---Art * *Arthur T.
