Until recently we used GNUemacs 18.50 on our apollos without any problems. I allways compiled it without optimization, because of a warning in the GNU distribution. Recently I acquired a tape with version 18.54 on it. I installed it on a hp9000/835 and a Alliant FX8 without any problems, it runs ok there. On an Apollo DN3000 running Domain IX 9.7 however, the new version consumes about 30 seconds of CPU time to echo a single character. It looks as though it is spending most of this time in 'select'. This renders the new version completely unusable. Did anybody see this problem before? Is it an error in GNUemacs, or in Apollo's BSD? Any hints would be greatly appreciated, I would like to have the same GNUemacs version on all our machines. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michel Berkelaar | Email: michel@euteal.nl Eindhoven University of Technology | michel@euteal.eunet Dept. of Electrical Engineering | ...!mcvax!euteal!michel Design Automation Section | P.O.
