[comp.sys.apollo] Trouble with Workstation Solutions Exatape drive

weiner@novavax.UUCP (Bob Weiner) (06/15/89)

We use a Workstations Solutions Exatape drive to back up our Apollo net.
It is attached to a DN4000 running SR10.1 BSD. We use it with the basic
software, rbak/wbak, not with Workstation Solutions special backup
system.

Most of the time it works find. But sometimes when it is being written
to with wbak, it seems to cause a spontaneous reset of the node!
Yesterday it reset the node which then got through its boot up sequence
through init, but then returned PM$_Init (OK) and stopped with the ')'
prompt. Typing go does not help. Someone suggested the DM may have
been corrupted.

Anyone seen anything like this. I really need to get the node up to run
backups. Thanks.

We had a problem with the node crashing under SR9.7.0 on a
DN3000. It turned out to be a problem in AEGIS, not in the
Workstation Solutions driver software. They (Workstation
Solutions) sent us an update version of AEGIS which solved
the problem. SR10.1 may have a similar problem. When your
node goes down, it should display a status code number. If
you use the /com/stcode command after the node comes back
up (or use it on another node) you can find out what the
error message is.
