DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO SEMINAR ACTIVITIES LOGIC DESIGN SEMINAR - Thursday, January 8, 1987. Ms. Micaela Serra of the University of Victoria will speak on ``New Methods for the Compaction Testing of Multiple-Output Digital Circuits''. TIME: 3:30 PM ROOM: MC 6082 ABSTRACT The increasing importance of data compaction techniques for the testing of digital circuits is discussed. The testing problem and its traditional solutions are introduced. Methods for the derivation of fault signa- tures for protection against both stuck-at and bridging faults are discussed. The signatures are based on par- ticular counting techniques applied to the output of the circuit under test. A new approach, ``space compression'', to testing multiple-output circuits is proposed. Testing is applied in parallel to all outputs and produces a sin- gle signature. Criteria are given for detecting whether or not a line is testable, using a determinis- tic approach without the need for extensive simulation. Of great significance is the optimal application of the theory to highly structured multiple-output networks like Programmable Logic Arrays and Read Only Memories. For these examples space compression testing gives full coverage of all single stuck-at-faults, bridging faults, and cross-point faults.
