[comp.sys.apollo] /bin/csh and /bin/sh hang sometimes

i91@nikhefh.hep.nl (Fons Rademakers) (08/11/89)

Hi,
Lately I am observing the following problem: after log in
when /bin/start_csh is executed (SR9.7) it takes a very long time
before I get a prompt. Also running shell scripts written in /bin/sh
take very long to execute. To find the problem I traced with DPAT
a shell script and it turns out that the system is waiting in the
routine (?) SVC! for a very long time. Then suddenly it continues.
The only remedy I've found so far is shutting and rebooting the node
(a DN580-T). What is SVC! doing? How can this problem be fixed?

Cheers, Fons Rademakers.
