I am about to attempt hooking up a serial line printer to one of the serial ports on a DN3500 and spool to it. Being more of a UNIX type than an Apollo type, my inclination is to do lp spooling with lpd. I remember being cautioned against this by a salesman - is there some problem with using lpd under 10.1? I am using lpd with no problems. If you are just printing from this one DN3500, just set your printer up with your UNIX knowledge. It gets a little tricky when setting up lpd in a network. I got some help from Apollo, and everything works fine. If you want specifics, feel free to give me a call. (614) 292-2902. Charlotte Hawley

I had no trouble running a separate lpd on each node after I fixed the various permissions on all the required files. I don't know if it was installed badly, open vs closed or what, but owner, group, setuid, setgid, etc were all in various states other than what they should be. I just set them up as the UNIX sysadmin book indicated. Alan Bair SPS CAD Austin, Texas Motorola, Inc. UUCP cs.utexas.edu!oakhill!turbinia!abair
