I'm sorry to be asking questions that are probably often asked but I have not
read this newsgroup before (this is canonical excuse #1). The reason I
do not read it is because I have a Sun computer (please, no flames). However
I am presently in Denmark working at the Technical University of Denmark just
outside of Copenhagen and I have an Apollo series 3000 to work with. (I am
VERY glad that I can work on it because the alternatives are horrible -
namely Amdahl computers, including a supercomputer, running VM and TSO and
MVS and possibly some other ungodly operating systems.)
Back to the matter at hand. Is there a (decent) Tektronix emulator package
out there somewhere? I have had a look at Apollo's and find it incredible that
anyone would be willing to pay 10000 kroner ($1500) for something that will
only operate over serial ports. What is the Apollo ring for? Well, anyway
what I need is a basic Textronix emulator (like the one that comes FREE with
all Sun computers) so that I can run some of my (interactive) graphics programs
on the Apollo. Also I need to be able to crp to the one machine on this ring
which is connected to the Danish network so that I can telnet to our Cray at
Ohio State and run some of my graphics packages interactively. Please e-mail
me any ideas at eao@shape.mps.ohio-state.edu (128.146.7.200) .
Also, can you tell me where some anonymous ftp sites are for public domain
Apollo software. The system administrator here, Jarl Jenson, would be
grateful for any responses. He is a faculty member and has taken it upon
himself to set up this ring and keep it working. (Presently there are
> 50 computers on it.)
Thanks, Ed Overman
