Does anyone have SAS (Statistical Analysis System) running on an Apollo DN10000 and/or DN2500? We are considering a configuration with a multiple CPU DN10000 and a dozen DN2500's. Apollo claims that SAS runs under their Aegis operation system and that it is available on both the DN10000 and DN2500. The people we've talked to at SAS have never heard of Aegis! So..... what's the score, is SAS running out there on Apollo's? If so, I'd appreciate any relevant comments regarding its reliability and any problems that have been encountered, particularly with regard to the need to have two copies of SAS (one for the DN10000 and another for the DN2500's). Thanks, Russell Millar, Dept of Fish and Oceans, St John's, Newfoundland.

I am amazed that the people you talked to at SAS Institute have never heard of AEGIS, because we have been using Apollos to develop Version 6 since 1985 - we now have over 300 Apollo Nodes on our ring. (Since we have no production version of SAS for Apollos, the sales people may not be aware of it . . . ) We have not developed a production system for Apollos before now because it was felt the market for the SAS System on Apollos consisted of the Institute itself, but that has changed. We plan to provide support for Apollos DN3000 series machines with 68020 or better with a 68881 or better floating point co-processor in Release 6.07. This release will support X Windows (not DM) under the SR10.2 operating system. We do not have any current plans to support DN2xxx or DN10xxxx machines. Release 6.07 is scheduled for mid-1990.
