Hi there, we are trying here to use exabytes as a way to ship user written data to other sites. These data come from HEP experiments where all code is in Fortran. The ideal situation would be for us to not change any program and simply tell users to use "/dev/..." as output file. That's what I tried with the /dev/rmts* devices installed by Omniback. (These are the device special files for tape units on SCSI). Now comes the funny thing: ftn programs can write sequential formatted data on the exabyte (and you can even read it back !), but ... ftn programs canNOT write sequential unformatted data, the error messages says something like: "illegal parameter combination for this type manager" Is ther anybody out there who has tried that, who wants to do the same thing, who's been hit by this problem ? Any Apollo guru who knows why I can't write raw data on a tape ? If you want I can summarize to the net the answers (if I get any :-) Thanks in advance, Achille Petrilli Cray & PWS Operations P.s.: I forgot to mention that all that happens under sr10.1.p (dn10000), Omniback 1.0
