[comp.sys.apollo] Mentor Graphics & DN2500

walsh@stdc01.UUCP (Mike Walsh) (10/23/89)

I posted this a couple of weeks ago, and recieved no replies and saw not
postings. We have had problems with our newsfeed so If this is a repeat
I apologize.

The company I work for has recently transitioned to Mentor Graphics EDA
tools. Although expensive, we have found them to work very well for
most of our needs. The time has come to do some customizing of the
user interface to ease some of the operations that we do to our schematics.

Does anyone out there in net-land have any experience in creating/modifying
the popup windows supplied with NetEd. I have successfully added items
to the menus, but I would like to create a popup form, (Mentor refers to
them as Dialog Boxes) have a user fill in some information in that form,
and then process the information.

I have scoured the manuals and have not been able to find anything. Is what
I want to do even possible? The books seem to say it is, but I can not
find any examples. Is there an unreleased tool for creating popup forms?
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions that any one has to offer. We are
currently running Mentor Graphics version 6.1.

My second question, does anyone know whether or not Mentor is going to
support the new DN2500 ?

Unfortunately, Mentor does not support user created forms. You can augment
their popup menus with menus or items, define your own menus, use their
forms in your menus, and associate menus with various windows (you
obviously already know how to do this), but you can't define your own forms.
Maybe in version 8.0 they'll support this obvious feature.

A long time ago I was a 'Mentor Graphics' System Administrator and
had cause to add menus to Neted. To do this it was necessary to
write in a special menu description language a file and compile
it with the Mentor Graphics "MISL" Compiler. The genorated code
was then included or read by the NETED startup files in /idea/sys ....
MISL is documented as part of NETED, but if I remember correctly
there only a few pages of information.

As I say it was a long time ago, but I hope this might be of some
help.

Mentor [supposedly] support the DN2500 from SR10.2 onward. I guess
the reason is that the 2500 requires a patch tape to add a new sau
directory to run under the current SR10.1 (which is used by Mentor V7.0)
