I hope this is an easy question for someone out there to answer. We have a computer lab containing 16 Apollo DN4000 workstations. Four of these have Maxtor 348Meg drives on Opti 8 controller cards. Of these four, two of them have cartridge tape drives in them. We are trying to expand the storage capabilities of these machines. My goal is to: 1. Add 1.2 Meg floppy disk drives to four machines 2. Add two 700 Meg Hard drives 2. Possibly add 2 more cartridge tapes I want to be able to do this as economically as possible. When I ask Apollo about it, they tell me many things (some I even wanted to know) and show me big numbers. When I talk to third party sources, they tell me things I want to hear but I expected that since they have a vested interest in my business. What I want to know is: 1. Will the Opti 8 controller work with a 760 Meg Maxtor? 2. Can we add third party 1.2 Meg floppys to our Apollos? 2a. What kind of controllers do we need? 3. How feasible is it to add additional drives to the machines with controllers AND keep the ones we have? 3a. If it is not feasible, can we add drives to our workstations (as opposed to the servers) with a minimum of difficulty? 4. What cartridge tape drives are available for the 4000? (We currently have 40Meg drives using DC 300 XL/P tapes) 5. Who sells these products (other than Apollo)? Thanks a bunch for the help. I will be more than happy to summarize my findings on the net if there is enough interest.
