+April 8 "Directions and Directors -- Trade Association and/or User Network"
As you know, this organization is a "Nonprofit Trade Association" AND "The
Canadian Network of UNIX Users".
This will be a good meeting to find out what makes /usr/group/cdn tick. And
perhaps even help determine future directions. Surveys show that the
majority of members are interested in the "Network of Unix Users" rather
than the Trade Association. The people that founded the group two years
ago had a strong marketing orientation. Meet the old directors and the
new candidates, to discuss the future direction of your association. Find out
what your leaders are planning, so that you can choose the right ones. Do you
want improved member services? Ask questions. Make your views known. Get
involved.
Would you like to see more online communication? (Some of our members don't
yet have access to the net, or even to UUCP mail. Some directors do use Unix.)
If you've been thinking of becoming a member -- this is the time to do it.
April 23 is the Annual General Meeting. Three new directors will be elected.
Last year four directors were elected of whom three were marketing
professionals. General members of record on April 10 will be eligible to vote.

+Unix Unanimous
At the January /usr/group/cdn meeting a number of Unix users decided to
organize strictly technical workshops in addition to the monthly meetings.
This activity has the financial and organizational support of /usr/group/cdn,
but non-members are welcome.
>>> We meet on the FIRST MONDAY of each month, at 1815.
>>> Room B, METRO LIBRARY, 789 Yonge Street (north of Bloor).
You don't need to be an expert to attend, but if you are you are most welcome.
Please bring your questions and problems. Expect to participate.
WANTED: A room with a view-port -- Anyone know of a meeting room with at least
one terminal in it? Must be available in the evening. More terminals
or large screens would be even better. A phone line would be a start.

+Online newsletter -- Form and Content for two Media
This README online newsletter has seen a few changes since its inception. It
started at ontmoh, and used a lot of fancy screen attributes. The current form
is really plain. The requirements are that it must be easy to produce and to
read online. Also, it should be easily printable to make decent hardcopy for
people who prefer (or need) something on paper. We will probably end up
somewhere between digests and troff. Any help will be much appreciated.
Do you think an online & hardcopy newsletter is a good idea? do you like or
dislike long lines? right adjustment? does it have to look good or have
content? do you really want to see articles or do you want a members'
_news_ _letter_? should it be informal or have a "professional image"?
With our new account at UofT, it's fairly easy to print newsletters and labels
in a routine way. If anyone is really interested in good quality printing,
there are troff, TeX, and postscript facilities.
There is a Mail Distribution List for subscribers to README and other news from
/usr/group/cdn. Please Contact utgpu!usrgroup to get on (or off) the list.
(README emphasis is on online version - online readers are more involved.)

Re Unix meet:
Peter, the seminar rooms at the Information Science Building, 140
St George have monitors in them. Of course a reasonable bet would be
that the monitors are not connected to anything...
