[comp.sys.apollo] lusr/who deficiency

SRFERGU@ERENJ.BITNET (Scott Ferguson) (12/08/89)

I also would like to see added to the Aegis lusr and Unix who commands
the following. Although I'm at 9.7, and I'm still not a complete UNIX wiz,
so this may be there, and I haven't read my man pages.

On other Unix systems, the 'who' command gives information about people
who are logged in via telnet, getty, etc. However, lusr does no such thing,
and I'm not aware of the 'who' command being able to do so over the entire
network. If I'm wrong about this, please correct me. And what about the
Aegis siomonitor stuff?

I don't know about 'who' since I almost exclusively use AEGIS, but you can get
the telnet processes by using the '-allp' option on the lusr command.
Unfortunately, this lists all processes including server processes and every
user process on every node. These can be filtered relatively easily though
to list only the display manager and telnet processes.

I don't remember if how 'who' behave at SR9.7 but in SR10 and above, there's
a switch, '-a', for 'who' to list users on the local network. Check the man
page to see if it's the same in SR9.7 (probably does, if my memory is right).

While on the similar subject, I read something about HP/Apollo's support of
Aegis shell and commands will go away in about two years. Could someone from
HP/Apollo confirm/deny this?

while I'm not a representative of HP/APOLLO, I'd like to respond..
At the ADUS Conference this past fall in New Orleans, we asked that
very question to which Apollo responded emphatically that they'll
continue to support AEGIS into the indefinite future.. I certainly hope
this is the case..
