I don't run a nameserver on our DSP10020, but use the nameserver on a remote bsd4.3 (non-apollo) host. This remote host is properly specified in the /etc/resolv.conf file. This setup works fine. Problems arise when this remote nameserver host goes out of service. Every name/address translation will (of course) fail. But apparently there are no timeouts, and everything hangs forever. I have also an /etc/hosts file, but this file is never consulted as a last resort. Example: if you start /usr/ucb/netstat in such situation, it hangs. If you try to interrupt with ^C, after a while you get the unexpected error message "Bus error".
