[comp.sys.apollo] SR10.1.p passwd command makes rgy unavailable

e07@nikhefh.nikhef.nl (Eric Wassenaar) (12/18/89)

If root attempts to change the password of another user with the
'passwd username' command, the command hangs, and the registry
becomes unavailable. The files /etc/passwd and /etc/group become
empty. Sometimes one experiences bad side-effects, such as:
The rgyd daemon does not respond any more. All pending nfs
connections abort. New nfs connections are refused.
This situation is usually restored automatically, if you are lucky
within some 10 minutes.

This is unacceptable.

The mailing list you are sending message to is a
list of Apollo users, not the Apollo corporate
bug-reporting address. We (the users) are quite
aware that SR10.1.p is full of bugs as we have
been using it for sometime now. Please ask your
field service office for a copy of SR10.2/SR10.2.p
for your site. A lot of what you are reporting are
known bugs, and a number of them were fixed in 10.2
