[comp.sys.apollo] 16-bit parallel strobed I/O and you

SRFERGU@ERENJ.BITNET (Scott Ferguson) (01/05/90)

Is anyone aware of a board for AT-bus's that does plain 16-bit strobed I/O?
I've called IKON and National Instruments, and the only 16-bit parallel
boards they offer follow the DEC DR-11W protocol, which I know nothing about,
but sounds too much like a protocol with funky control signals and opcodes
to me.

So, I need a board for 16-bit I/O (actually only input; this will take data
from a CCD camera) with only a strobe as control.

Also, if anyone can give me a brief description of DR-11W, or has any documents
explaining it, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Scott Ferguson

The DR-11W protocol is an 'industry-standard' means for bidirectional 16 bit
data transfer between two electronic systems (not necessarily computers).

It has NO data-related protocols, just a couple of handshake lines to indicate
data availability and direction. If you were to think of the absolute minimum
number of signals required for such a mechanism, you would end up with the
same number of control lines as the DR-11W (six, if I remember correctly).

Best of all, you don't have to use them all if you aree unidirectional.
