[comp.sys.apollo] init problem fixed - thanks

The problem was in /etc/ttys which I had modified in an attempt
to enable remote root logins and then forgotten about.  I had lines
of the form:

   tty04	none			dumb	on	secure

instead of:

   ttyp4	none			dumb	off	secure

(The man entry on ttys(5) leaves something to be desired!)

Thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction.
