[comp.sys.apollo] Can't read /etc/group

nazgul@alphalpha.COM (Kee Hinckley) (01/17/90)

Context: SR10.2

I have a two node network. On the node with the master registry
I can read /etc/group, but /etc/passwd is appended to it. On the
other node anything that tries to read it claims the file doesn't
exist. It doesn't seem to matter whether the rgyd is running
on either or both nodes. Does anyone have any idea?

BTW. Warning. If for some reason /bin/mail is unable to get
group mail out with the call to get a group id (which works
by the way, even though catting /etc/group doesn't) it will
fail. However it will not return an error message, so sendmail
will think that it succeeded and your mail will get thrown away.
I've reported this (today).

Which leads me to one further note. If you sent me mail in the
past day or so, send it again. :-/
