[comp.sys.apollo] Need help with DN600 and DN400

John_A_Pham@cup.portal.com (02/19/90)

Hello world,
     I just have access to two Apollos (DN600 and DN400), however I can not
find a manual for these two beast!! :( so I wonder if anyone has an extra
set of manual sitting around they would like to loan it to me for a couple
days or so. I'm interest in any hardware/software that you may have...even
a catalog :)

Thanks much,
John

ps.....since I just set up this DN600, I notice that it has a RGB cable
to the 2131 color monitor. It has 3 BNC connectors (labeled A1, A2, and A3)
does A1 go into RED
     A2 --> Green
     A3 --> Blue     ??

      and.. the cpu board contains 2 68000s! ... did anyone ever remove
      them and upgrade those two cpus to 68010? Did the performance
      increase?

Can't help you with manuals... you'd have to contact HP ($$$)

Can't help you here - my 660 has leads marked with red, green, and blue..

The two 68000 sit there pretending to be a 68010 - I believe one does the
work, and the other pretends it's a MMU - but I may be wrong. I can't see
replacing them with 68010s being any use.

The best way to improve performance would be to get hold of the processor
(2 boards) & boot processor (1 board) out of a 660 - people *must* be
throwing them away by now... - then you'll have a *real* computer (68020
look-alike).

      wow!!! if anyone is throwing their 660 machine or their manuals ;)
      away, I like to hear from them!!! :)

On the other note, I finally get my DN420 up and running!!, the question now
is HOW DO I LOGIN after "please login:" prompt? I need a login id and
password!. Is there a default account, like maintenance that I can use?
