[comp.sys.apollo] 10.2 rsh bug

dvadura@watdragon.waterloo.edu (Dennis Vadura) (03/08/90)

Anyone know of a workaround for this? (don't tell me to go look at the patch
list, we've been trying to get a patch tape for 3 weeks now)

On a 10.1 system:
msgcad[24]% cat .cshrc | (rsh dragon wc)
	 14 42 292

On a 10.2 system:
calypso[61] cat .login | (rsh dragon wc)
   Segmentation fault

I ran into this when I was trying to write a backup tape of our 10.1 node
over the internet. On 10.1 when you do:

wbak -full -stdout //node | (rsh dragon tar -cf -)

or equivalent, things work fine until you run out of disk space on //node.
VERY ANNOYING! I'am using stdout cause I don't have disk space for the whole
wbak file!, and my tapedrive is flakey! Arrrgggggg!

(at least this is the observed behaviour, any suggestions deeply appreciated,
10.2 wbak does not have this problem, I'm doing the wbak so that I can
upgrade the node to 10.2)
