I am a college student who has been looking to buy a Unix workstation. I have found an Apollo DN560 and am hoping someone could answer some questions for me. The system is listed as a DN560, 3mb memory, 68020/68881, cart tape, 70 mb disk, 19" color monitor with a 4 bitplane graphics capability. Currently running 10.1 Keeping in mind I will only use this in the BSD mode please help me with some questions. I have heard that the Apollo unix really isn't that good (buggy) is this true or is it a biased statement? Is there much trouble compiling things off the net? (Like X or GNU CC) How fast is this machine? How old of a model is it? Does anyone still use them? What mode do most people run in? Is there a graphics interface? Does anyone run X? Is this machine to small to run X? What compilers are standard? Is 3megs of memory considered too small for this machine? What possibilities are there for expansion? I would also want more disk space... what possibility is there to add on more drives? Is there SCSI ports? Do I need to buy Apollo products? Are they expensive? If I buy this and it dies what kind of support is there going to be? Thank you for all your help. Please send me you advice, opinions, comments, answers. Brian VanVoorst BRVANVOO at MTUS5
