[ This is being posted for a friend; Please respond directly. ] We are trying to use Gatorboxes to connect our extensive Apollo net to our extensive Mac net. This isn't easy for us to do without a WRITEABLE SR10 registry. The WRITEABLE SR9 registry doesn't have the /etc/passwd in a standard unix format so the communication software used by the Gatorbox allows people to log in with no password. Nice, huh? For some reason, the people in my group object to creating several 200 user /etc/passwd files by hand for the exclusive use of the Gatorboxes, so we have been dancing around the possibility of making the big conversion. Anyway, having had a bad experience with running cvtry to make a READONLY SR10 version of our 9.7 registry, I am now in terror of making a WRITEABLE SR10 registry and in the process locking out our 850 remaining 9.7 users. This usually involves a lot of weekend work and recriminations, which we hate. So if anyone has had problems with converting, I would like to hear about it. If anyone has had NO problems I would like to know that too. (Is anyone out there?) This is my first time on usenet, but I am told that I can receive mail at: macklin@gdwest.gd.com or sdsu!gdwest!macklin - if this doesn't work, I can be reached by phone at 619-573-3612. Thanks, Teresa Macklin
