ABSTRACT

Many parabolic partial differential equations in one
dimension can be solved efficiently using general-
purpose software based on the method of lines. Such
problems occur quite frequently in the model systems
developed in mathematical biology. A new software
package, SPRINT (from Leeds University, UK), is
discussed through its use in the numerical solution of
a model of the spread of rabies in foxes, developed by
Prof. J.D. Murray and associates, Oxford University
Centre for Mathematical Biology.
