Hello: We have a DN3000 w/ 4MB memory which we want to expand to 8MB. Our Apollo rep claims that we have throw out the current 4MB (2 cards) and start from scratch. Does that make sense? Is it a problem of discontinued memory type, or is there some fundamental reason that this must be so? Reuben Gellman Univ Of Calgary, Dept Clinical Neurosciences

If you have a DN3000 or DN3000 model 3010, your machine will have four slots for memory cards. The cards can contain either 1MB or 2MB each. If your machine currently has 2 cards of 2MB each, then you should have 2 unused slots in which you can add another 4MB of memory with no problems. If your machine is a DN3010A (note the 'A'!), then it has a single memory slot which hold either a 4MB card or an 8MB card. I believe these are the same memory cards that are used in the DN3500/4500. If you have a DN3010A, then you must removed the 4MB card in order to install a new 8MB card since there is only a single slot on the motherboard. To order memory for a DN3000 or DN3010, order the A-ADD-2MB option from the Apollo Direct Catalog (page 4). To order memory for the DN3010A, DN3500, or DN4000 order the A-ADD-4MB-A or A-ADD-8MB-A options (single 4MB or 8MB card). Memories for the DN4500 must be installed in pairs of two boards. To order memory for the DN4500 order A-ADD-8MB-B or A-ADD-16MB-B (a pair of 4MB cards or a pair of 8MB cards). Note that the DN3550 is basically a slow version of the DN4500 (not a fast version of the DN3500) and it requires that its memories be installed in pairs like the DN4500. -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter.mit.edu@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)
