[comp.sys.apollo] Adding an ESDI disk to a DN4500

north@Apple.COM (Donald N. North) (03/24/90)

I have an Apollo DN4500 (SR 10.1) with an internal ESDI disk controller
(SMS/OMTI AT-bus board) and a Maxtor XT-4380E ESDI disk. I'm trying to
configure a Fujitsu M2263E 7690MB ESDI disk as the second drive and
have absolutely no success.

Neither 'invol' or 'config' (or me!) seem to understand what I've done.

Has anybody either done this, or know if it is possible (or not?).

Thanks in advance...

My understanding is that the 2nd drive on the controller must be identical
to the 1st drive. The "jumper" program shows the OMTI controller configured
with the following disk drives:

Vertex V185 (86MB)
Micropolis 1325 (86MB)
           1355 (170MB)
Maxtor 4380 (380MB)
       4380E (380MB fast access)
Micropolis 4380E	(380MB fast access)

It does not show any drives in excess of 380MB with the OMTI controller.
Apollo uses the Western Digital WD7000 controller for those drives.
