I am looking into writing code on an Apollo workstation and have it portable accross different machine platforms. The problem is more difficult than just writing code in C. What I need is a system whereby the same calls can be made from my code for low level routines on different machines, such as file manipulation, terminal handlers and calls that are specific to the individual machine. This would be a virtual system that would allow my code to work on different systems by only modifiyg the machine specific routines. Does anyone know of such a product that exists that runs on the Apollo and ports to other platforms. I am primarily interested in developing C++ code on the apollo and porting to IBM running DOS, MS-Windows and Presentation Manager, also Xwindows. I've heard of a company named GSS that is selling XVT which sounds like it does what I'm looking for, but thier product currently doesn't run on the Apollo. If anyone knows of such a product please send me the company name and number. Thanks in advance, David Aharoni Inet address: dma@beach.cis.ufl.edu
