(This is a response to a previous posting about graphics packages on APOLLO nodes. I really wanted to post it to the newsgroup but didn't manage to do that correctly the first time.) We use two fairly general packages: 1.) Mathematica. Great for quick plotting as well as an excellent tool for general mathematical analysis using symbolic manipulation. We purchased it for $140.00 from Apollo - offered in the last few months to new purchases of 680xx based Apollo workstations. For more information contact Instant Apollo: 1-800- 225-5290. I don't know if they are still offering it discount. (We recently purchased it for a SUN for something like $1200.00.) Only problem: Does not plot interactively on DN3500 nodes. One must first create the postscripted graph in a file, pop a window and then display the ps file using the Mathematica provided postscript display program. Net question: Anyone heard from mathematica about a fix for this bug? Last time I I was told, 'Real soon now!' They say it is a 'problem' with the way Apollo implements the varius shell's (aegis, sysV,bsd.) 2.) Foto. A menu driven general scientific visualization package written using GPR. We love it. Beautiful use of Apollo visualization hardware. Basically written to visualize FEM type results but easily adaptable to other problems. It can be purchased from; Cognivision, Inc. 319 Littleton Road, Suite 100 Westford, Mass. 01886 (508) 392-0882 Disclaimer: I am not associated with either company. Just a satisfied customer. Peter J.
