[comp.sys.apollo] random setting of umask

goutier@jsp.UMontreal.CA (Claude Goutier) (05/30/90)

Be warned that the initial value of umask may be inherited from
a previous login. Thus the root account, which normally do not
use any .profile or .cshrc, may ended up whith an umask value
of 022 (common on many accounts whith security concern) instead
of the default value 000. This explains why, for example, devices
recreated by mkdev could be 644 instead of 666. This problem
exist at least from sr10.0 up to now sr10.2.
