OS: SR10.1 I have recently been printing from a Sequent Symmetry through to our Apollo network, where we have a laserprinter (ps). Lpd has been set up in the standard way -- specifying the remote machine name, printer and restricting to local users. Local lpd works, having worked round the known bugs (re: NCS). I have tried 2 scenarios: a) Specifying remote machine as ethernet gateway machine. This is not the printing machine. This returns an error -- Jun 4 14:47:54 treebeard lpd[581]: syma requests recvjob ps Jun 4 14:47:55 treebeard lpd[581]: cannot find device 300696, 1 and does not print. b) Specifying remote machine as printing machine. This returns a warning -- Jun 4 15:12:10 boromir lpd[2025]: ps: /dev/wn0a: No such file or directory and prints the file. The printcap entry specifies lp=/dev/sio2, correctly. This led me to look at /dev on the printing machine, where I found, 0 flp brw-rw-rw- 1 root staff 300696, 1 Feb 15 15:18 /dev/wn0a which helps to explain the errors associated with a) and b). Is this a known bug ( or feature! )? (We have yet to receive bug reports, fixes, patch tapes etc., from HP/Apollo despite being a long term customer). We have one machine running at SR10.2, and should be upgrading the others in the near future ( except out DN10000 -- we're still waiting for SR10.2.p ) -- I hope this would fix the warning, but any enlightenment would be appreciated.
