H E L P ! I just made my second attempt to update our DN10000 from SR10.1.p to SR10.2.p and ran into the same problems as some two or three months ago: After installing the os (new or update, that's no difference) and some successfull shutdowns, the DN10000 doesn't correctly boot anymore ! That means, it hangs when starting the internet processes tcpd and inetd and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes until it reaches the dm. After reaching the dm, every usage of TCP/IP stuff produces the same result (hangs for some minutes, cursor disappears). When I tried to boot without tcpd etc. it worked, so I tried some things from the shell, with the following results: - /etc/nmconfig -h hostent_bind -> 'Cannot get internal system buffer' - /etc/tcpd No error message - /etc/ifconfig eth0 129.69.110.2 netmask 0xffffff00 /etc/ifconfig dr0 129.69.57.1 netmask 0xffffff00 No error message - /etc/route add default 129.69.110.1 1 -> 'add net default: gateway 129.69.110.1' (seems ok) - /etc/routed -t -> 'routed: router/udp: unknown service' (after some minutes) - /etc/ping 129.69.110.1 -> 'icmp: unknown protocol' (after some minutes) This is the configuration: DN10000 2 CPU's with ethernet- and token-ring controller, 80-plane VS Graphics. Installed patches: domain_os (p0130), /lib/streams (p0114) and /etc/routed (p0103). SR10.2.p works on our second DN10000 which has no VS-Graphics and no ethernet (but a second token ring). Of course I tried to get help from HP/Apollo the first time when I wanted to update, but with no result at all, so I had to go back to SR10.1.p. Because we need X on that machine and because I received a patch-tape last week, I thought I could give it another try (haha). If anybody has any idea, please mail me (I hope our mail system will do) thanks in advance ------- Georg Schmid, ISD University of Stuttgart, W.-Germany email: schmid@bean.luftfahrt.uni-stuttgart.de Voice: 0711/685-2053 Fax: 0711/685-3706
