Not being a UNIX guru, but knowing enough to get around, I am trying to mount an additional storage module (s1) on a 10.1 DSP90 (egad!) using the BSD4.3 commands "/etc/mknod" and "/etc/mount". The manual "Managing BSD System Software (010853-A00)" describes the mknod command usage as "/etc/mknod name b|c major minor" with very little description of just what "major" and "minor" are. Through several attempts and some deductive reasoning, I believe that "major" refers to the unit number (much like if you have multiple IKON print drivers), and minor refers to drive number (0 or 1). Is this correct? What values do I need to substitute for major and minor? I tried a few combinations, but received messages like "device busy" or "no such device". BTW, the value I substituted for "name" was "/dev/dsk/S0d1s1". Do I also need to create other block files in /dev/rdsk and /dev? Thank you in advance. -- R.
