Discontinuous IVPs''.

ABSTRACT

An effective technique for the automatic solution of
discontinuous initial value problems in ODEs is
developed and justified. The technique will detect,
locate and cross a discontinuity without any
intervention by the user. It can be implemented in any
method which has an associated interpolant of
sufficient local accuracy. Numerical examples will be
presented for implementations using Runge Kutta methods
with interpolants. These results will illustrate the
significant improvements in efficiency and reliability
that can be realised.
